Clément Chartier

Clément Chartier LL.B, QC (born 1946 in Île-à-la-Crosse, Saskatchewan) is a Métis Canadian leader. He grew up in Buffalo Narrows, Saskatchewan. He officially became a lawyer in 1980. Charier served as President of the World Council of Indigenous Peoples between 1984–87 and vice-president between 1993–97.
As of 2006, Chartier serves as president of Canada's Métis National Council since 24 October 2003. Previously, he was president of Métis Nation—Saskatchewan (1998–2003), and turned over the office to interim president Lorna Docken when he became president of the Metis National Council.
